Professor Mark Staniszewski has spent more than three decades dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in martial arts as a competitor, coach, and instructor. Widely recognized as one of the nation's most accomplished grapplers, Mark has earned championship titles in Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sambo, Catch Wrestling, and submission grappling while competing successfully at the state, national, Pan American, and world levels.
A former Top 10 Team USA Judo athlete, former #1 ranked USA Judo Veterans competitor, and former #1 ranked NAGA Gi competitor in America, Mark has consistently demonstrated elite-level performance throughout his career. He also made history as the first athlete ever to win Pan American Masters Championships in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a testament to his versatility and technical mastery. His lifelong contributions to the martial arts have earned him induction into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
Mark currently holds the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in Judo through the United States Judo Federation (USJF) and USA Judo, the National Governing Body for Olympic Judo in the United States. He is also a 4th Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under legendary 9th Degree Grandmasters Joe Moreira and Francisco Mansor, with Grandmaster Mansor being a direct student of Helio Gracie. In addition, Mark is a certified coach in Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling, giving his students a uniquely well-rounded grappling education.
Despite an extensive list of championships and accolades, Mark believes the true purpose of martial arts extends far beyond medals and titles. His passion lies in helping students build confidence, resilience, discipline, humility, and the ability to protect themselves and those they love. Every class is designed to challenge students while fostering an environment of respect, encouragement, and continuous growth.
As the founder and head instructor of Team Believe, Mark has built an academy centered on community, service, and family. Under his leadership, Team Believe proudly supports organizations including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and Sunrise Camp, while also providing annual scholarships to deserving students. The academy's mission reflects Mark's belief that martial artists have a responsibility to lift others up both on and off the mats.
Of all his accomplishments, however, Mark considers his greatest achievement to be neither championships nor black belts. His proudest role is being a devoted husband and father—a reminder that the strongest legacy any martial artist can leave is the one they build at home.
Coach Mark officially retired from competition in 2026 due to medical reasons, but continues to oversee the Team Believe program and pass along his knowledge through instruction.
